Missing/Murdered First Nations (Native) Women

NATIVE WOMEN MISSING AND/OR MURDERED IN CANADA

MEMORIAL QUILT

We encourage all loved ones and those interested to put together a quilt piece for a MEMORIAL QUILT which will be a travelling memorial in honour of unsolved missing and murdered women.

This quilt will resemble the Names Project ( AIDS QUILT ).

Hopefully this quilt can travel around the world bringing with it, education about WHY women are on the streets, what can be done to help them, and most of all an effort that this never happens again!

We CANNOT let these womens deaths be swept under the carpet. They were loved. Some left children. THEY CANNOT BE FORGOTTEN!

If you are interested in participating in this project please contact me at EMAIL

Vanished Voices-NEVER AGAIN! Project (Memorial Quilt)

Vanished Voices-NEVER AGAIN! Project represents the culmination of a two-fold dream: 1)to preserve the memories of those women who are missing or have been murdered, and 2) to provide education to the public about WHY these women are missing/murdered, as well as the investigative process and outcome.

It is our hope that this Memorial Quilt will travel to all four corners of this earth, to help bring about awareness.

At each showing we will attempt to have support resources available for women in need of IMMEDIATE help, in that particular area.

MAKING THE PANEL

PANEL INSTRUCTIONS

1) go to the site, and find one woman you REALLY want to do a panel on. Perhaps it is someone you can relate to, someone you knew or someone a friend of yours knew. You might be drawn to a particular woman with a story you can relate to. If you want suggestions on who might NOT have a panel made for them, contact me and I can help you out. ( Some families have requested that someone specifically make a particular panel. )
Ideally, we would have ONE panel per woman, not duplicating one or two "more high profile" cases, so that ALL the women can be remembered. Of course, if two or more family members of one of the women wish to make panels, this will be an exception.

MAKING THE PANEL

1. Select durable, medium weight fabric for the background, preferably of cotton fibres or as few stretch fibres as possible. This will help keep your design intact when folded and unfolded.
2. The background fabric should measure 13 inch square. Chalk out or pin a 1" border within the edges of your fabric . Keep your finished design inside the 12 inches; leave the extra 1" around it empty so your panel can be sewn together with other panels to make several 12 foot square Section of panels. Panels should be made vertically.
3. Plan your panel to reflect your fondest memories, if you personally knew this woman. You can paint, stencil, collage, use appliqué or other methods for the desired effect. You can also use photographs by photocopying them onto iron-on transfers and then ironing them onto the background cloth. Avoid using breakable items or glue, which cracks when it dries.

WHEN THE PANEL IS FINISHED

1. Write a short description about the woman you have memorialized including:
full name of the woman for whom the panel was made; name(s)of the panel maker(s) and their relationship to the person memorialized ( if applicable); address and phone number of panel maker(s).
2. Contact the Founder of the Memorial Quilt for information on submitting your panel to become part of The VANISHED VOICES-NEVER AGAIN! Memorial Quilt by sending email to waabzy@yahoo.com with QUILT on the subject line.

On a separate piece of paper please provide the following when ready to ship the panel:
